Key Observations

Religion Matters
  • 84% of our respondents agree with the statement "I believe in a Supreme Being."
    • 87% of women agreed with this statement, as did 79% of men
    • Respondents ages 36 and above were more likely to agree with this statement (88%) than those between the ages of 18-35 (74%)
  • 79% of those polled believe in absolute standards of right and wrong
    • 82% of respondents over the age of 35 agreed with this statement compared with 72% between the ages of 18-35.
  • The majority of our participants (74%) say the Bible is their source for standards of right and wrong.
    • Women were more likely to agree with this statement (79%) than men (67%)
    • 79% of participants over the ages 36 and above agreed with this statement while only 62% of those under the age of 36 did.
Weekly Worship
  • Five years ago, 58% of our respondents attended church or a place of worship about once a week
    • 65% of women agreed with this statement compared with 47% of men
    • Participants ages 36 and above agree more with this statement (60%) than those between the ages of 18-35 (50%)
    • Those who had attended college agreed more with this statement (62%) than those who had no college experience (51%).
    • More participants whose annual household income level was above $50,000 agreed with this statement (63%) than those with households earning less than $50,000 annually (53%).
  • Currently, 52% of those polled attend church or a place of worship about once a week
    • More women (57%) are likely to attend a weekly church or worship service than men (45%).
    • Participants over the age of 35 agreed with this statement more (55%) than those under the age of 35 (43%).
    • Those respondents with an annual household income of more than $50,000 agreed more with this statement (55%) than those with annual household income levels of less than $50,000 (48%)
  • However, 64% of participants are more interested in religious matters than they were five years ago.
    • 68% of women agree with this statement while only 57% of men do
    • Respondents with an annual household income of less than $50,000 agreed more with this statement (67%) than those with an annual household income level above $50,000 (59%).
Ethics, Morals and Our Country
  • 68% of those polled believe the moral and ethical standards of our country are lower than five years ago
    • Participants over the age of 36 agree more with this statement (73%) than those between the ages of 18-35 (57%)
    • Respondents with an annual household income under $75,000 agreed more with this statement (70%) than those with an annual household income of over $75,000 (63%)
  • 60% of our respondents believe the moral and ethical standards of our leaders in this country are lower than five years ago
    • 64% of men agreed with this statement compared with 59% of women
    • Participants with an annual household income level of less than $75,000 agreed more with this statement (63%) than those with a household income level of above $75,000 annually (54%)
High Integrity
  • 83% of participants usually return any overpayment of money they receive in error from a retail store or bank
    • Women are more likely to return money received in error (86%) than men (76%)
    • More respondents who attended college agreed with this statement (87%) than those who had not taken college coursework (77%)
  • Of those polled, 82% said they have never stolen anything from their employer.
    • 87% of women agreed with this statement compared with 74% of men
  • 86% of our respondents report they always repay their debts or obligations.
    • Those participants who have taken college coursework were more likely to agree with this statement (90%) than those who had not attended college (81%).
    • 93% of those polled whose annual household income level is above $50,000 agreed with this statement compared with 83% of those whose household income level is less than $50,000 annually
Privacy

Domestic Surveillance
  • 53% of those polled believe domestic surveillance is a necessary measure in our war on terror.
    • Respondents under the age of 35 agreed more with this statement (58%) than those ages 36 and above (51%).
Is anyone listening?
  • 47% of those polled agree that people with nothing to hide have no reason to fear the government listening to their conversations, while 42% of those polled disagree with this statement.
    • Respondents under the age of 35 agreed more with this statement (51%) than those ages 36 and above (46%).
    • More participants who had no college experience agreed with this statement (57%) than those who had completed college coursework (41%).
  • 18% of our participants feel that conversations between an American and a non-American should have different legal protections than conversations between two Americans.
    • Men were more than twice as likely to agree with this statement (27%) than women (13%).
Protecting America or Protecting America's Rights?
  • The statement “The government’s responsibility to protect the American people from terrorism is greater than their responsibility to constitutional law” divided our participants:
    • 37% of our respondents agree with this statement, 35% disagreed with it and 29% were neutral
    • Women were more likely to agree with this statement (38%) than men (34%).
    • Participants with college experience were more likely to agree with this statement (37%) than those who had not taken any college coursework (29%).
    • 41% of respondents with an annual household income level below $50,000 agreed with this statement compared with 32% of those with an annual household income level above $50,000.
  • The statement “The government’s responsibility to constitutional law is greater than their responsibility to protect the American people from terrorism” divided our participants:
    • 40% of our respondents agreed with this statement, 32% were neutral and 28% disagreed with the statement.
    • 42% of women agreed with this statement compared with 38% of men
    • Respondents who had not completed any college coursework were more likely to agree with this statement (46%) than those who have had college experience (36%).
    • Those with an annual household income level of less than $50,000 agreed more with this statement (45%) than those with a household income level of more than $50,000 annually (34%)
