How do we see ourselves and others?

Moral Standards and Family
  • 73% of participants agreed with the statement "I hold myself to a higher moral standard than other people do"
    • Women tended to agree more with the statement (76%) than men did (66%).
    • 78% of respondents with an annual household income greater than $50,000 agreed with the statement compared with 71% of those with an annual household income of less than $50,000.
  • I hold family members to a higher moral standard than I hold myself.
    • 39% of participants agreed with the statement, 42% disagreed and 20% remained neutral.
    • Those with no college experience agreed more with the statement (55%) than those who had completed college coursework (33%).
Leaders and Moral Standards
  • 71% of participants agreed "I hold religious leaders to a higher moral standard than I hold myself".
    • Those ages 18-35 agreed more with the statement (78%) than those ages 36 and above (69%).
  • I hold corporate executives to a higher moral standard than I hold myself.
    • 36% of participants agreed with the statement, 41% disagreed and 23% remained neutral.
    • Slightly more women (37%) than men (33%) agreed.
    • Respondents ages 36 and over agreed more with the statement (37%) than those ages 18-35 (31%).
    • Those who had no college experience were more likely to agree with the statement (43%) than those who had completed college coursework (34%).
    • 46% of participants with an annual household income of less than $50,000 agreed with the statement, compared with 31% of those with an annual household income of greater than $50,000.
Professionals and Moral Standards
  • 55% of participants agreed "I hold teachers to a higher moral standard than I hold myself".
    • 25% disagreed with the statement and 21% remained neutral.
    • More women (60%) than men (44%) agreed with the statement.
    • Those ages 18-35 agreed more with the statement (62%) than those ages 36 and above (53%).
    • Respondents with an annual household income of less than $50,000 were more likely to agree with the statement (65%) than those with an annual household income greater than $50,000 (50%).
  • I hold physicians to a higher moral standard than I hold myself.
    • 55% of participants agreed with the statement, 28% disagreed and 18% remained neutral.
    • More women (58%) than men (49%) agreed.
    • Respondents ages 18-35 agreed more with the statement (62%) than those ages 36 and above (53%).
    • Those who had no college experience were more likely to agree with the statement (62%) than those who had completed college coursework (53%).
    • 62% of participants with an annual household income of less than $50,000 agreed with the statement, compared with 52% of those with an annual household income of greater than $50,000.

    • 39% agreed with the statement, 40% disagreed with the statement and 21% remained neutral.
    • More women (43%) than men (31%) agreed with the statement.
    • Respondents with an annual household income of less than $50,000 were more likely to agree with the statement (48%) than those with an annual household income greater than $50,000 (34%).

    • Those ages 36 and over agreed more with the statement (39%) than those ages 18-35 (28%).
    • Respondents who had no college experience agreed more with the statement (51%) than those who had completed college coursework (32%).
  • Actions of their advisors reflect the moral standards of politicians.
    • 50% of participants agreed with this statement, 31% disagreed and 19% remained neutral.
    • Those ages 36 and over agreed more with the statement (52%) than those ages 18-35 (42%).
    • Respondents who had no college experience agreed more with the statement (62%) than those who had completed college coursework (46%).
  • Actions of employees reflect the moral standards of their company.
    • 34% of participants agreed with this statement, 43% disagreed and 23% remained neutral.
    • More women (38%) than men (27%) agreed with this statement.
    • Respondents who had no college experience agreed more with the statement (50%) than those who had completed college coursework (29%).
    • Those with an annual household income of less than $50,000 were more likely to agree with the statement (37%) than those whose households earned more than $50,000 annually (30%).

  • 71% of those polled agreed "Serious personal breaches of ethics by a politician should cause them to lose their job, even if their job performance was otherwise outstanding."
    • Participants who had no college experience agreed more with the statement (78%) than those who had completed college coursework (70%).
  • 67% of those polled agreed "Serious personal breaches of ethics by a corporate executive should cause them to lose their job, even if their job performance was otherwise outstanding."
    • Participants who had no college experience agreed more with the statement (75%) than those who had completed college coursework (64%).
    • Those with an annual household income of less than $50,000 were more likely to agree with the statement (76%) than those with a household income greater than $50,000 annually (63%).
Faith and Character
  • I feel people who share my faith have a stronger moral character.
    • 44% of participants agreed with the statement, 29% disagreed and 27% remained neutral.
    • Respondents with no college experience agreed more with the statement (53%) than those who had completed college coursework (41%).
